Victorian Ghost Fiction

The Turn of the Screw.jpg

The section provides examples on Victorian ghost fiction. Two major parts are included here that deal with Novels and Short Stories.  In this section, ghosts appear, in the novels and short stories, as major characters that have great effect on the plots. Excluding them change the course of events and subverts the whole genre.

The ghosts in the fiction are classified in three major categories: first, harmful ghosts that kills, misleads and deceives. They are antagonists. Second, helpful ghost that transformed people from evil to good ones. They are protagonists. Finally, Non-existent ghosts; these are the ghosts that people pretends that they see them while it is not true and do not exists in reality. People feel that they are affected by the feeling they feel their presence and behave accordingly.
